Last week class started off by Glenn showing us a movie called Razors Edge. After watching this movie, I thought that the movie was about viewpoints in life. This movie started off with a man and woman that were in love, but the man decided that he needed to go on a journey to learn about himself more. Glenn turned off the movie after the scene when the man found out that his ex girlfriend murdered his fiance. The man was able to move on with his life and found a new lover, and obtained a greater view in life, but as for his ex girlfriend she told the man that she still loved him. It really amazed me how different the two were at the end, the lady staying exactly the same as she was during the beginning of the movie, and the man having changed so much after his journey. Their viewpoints were very different from each other's.
After the movie, Glenn started his lecture on performance art. The person we talked about for this type of art was Marina Abramovic. I was really amazed at the work that she has done in her life. She made me really think about how a human being could be so extreme such as her. Being art herself and expressing herself by actions that I hope I never have to do. She really inspires me, not in the way of inpiring me to become a perfomance artist, but living life with much more willingness to try things that I have never experienced.

Chapter 3 Artists
During chapter three's reading there was a picture that surprised me. The portrait is called the The Oxbow and was done by Thomas Cole. I thought that this picture was really well painted and was well thought up of. One reason why I thought that this picture stood out to me compared to the others was that it could make people think in two different ways. This picture could look like it is the calm before the storm or the opposite, the sunlight after the storm. The second reason why I was attracted to this picture was that the two opposite factors, chaos and peace, was seperated by a bow shaped curve, instead of a straight line. I thought that in most contrasting pictures two factors are seperated right in the middle by a straight veritcal line. The bow shaped curve in this picture made this picture look so much more beautiful.
The second painting that caught my eyes was called the The Garden of Earthly Delights, which was done by Hieronymus Bosch. This picture at first looked like a picture of paradise, but as soon as I started looking deeper into the picture and payed attention to the detail it looked very weird. All the figures that looked like people were all mutated and are in weird motion. But even though this picture does look a little unappealing to me, I still thought that this picture was great, because this picture shows how imaginitive Bosch is. The fantasy in this picture is very creative.

Chapter 2 Favorites
Chapter 2 asks the question what is art to the reader. This question made me think about what art means to me and what art would mean to someone else. Ofcourse we would both have different perspectives on what art is to us.
There was a point in my life when my friend and I argued over why the Mona Lisa portrait is such a great piece of art and is known to everyone. My friend's answer was because of its age and the fact that it is priceless. I did not agree to his arguement, I believed that its not value that made the art work great it was more of the fact that it felt alive. The fact that it is so realistic and that it seems like the woman in the picture is still there frozen in time, smiling towards the viewer. Sure, we have cameras that can take a picture, which can take a an almost exact representation of what we see, but its not the same.
We see objects and scenerys everyday and taking a picture just means that we can see the same scenery we saw at that time, which might look great, becuase its realistic. But the Mona Lisa portrait makes me think that its just on the boarderline between reality and imagination, it is plain and creative at the same time. This portrait was done by Leonardo da Vinci, and makes me really impressed of how much of a great man he was and still is, he was able to create a art work that is even more popular now in the present than it was in his time, which makes him my favorite chapter 2 artist.
My second favorite artist in this chapter will have to be Claude Monet. Her painting Fisherman's Cottage on the Cliffs at Varengeville makes a beautiful scenery look so pure. The colors she uses for the ocean and trees in the painting makes it look so refreshing and clean. Another reason for why I appreciate this picture is that, if I really imagine that I could see this view in a more realistic view, such as from a camera or if I saw it in person, it won't look as perfect as it does to me shown on the portrait.

September 6th Whats Really Real? lecture analysis
During last weeks lecture we had multiple conversations about various ideas of what is reality is. This lecture was easy for me to understand probably because I took a philosophy class during summer making it so that I could see where Mr. Zucman's thought process was heading at. In my philosophy class we had numerous debates about what is real and how we know something is real, because who knows this may all be a dream. How do we know that something is there? Is it because we can see it or even taste it? Well then that would mean that we're just using our senses to perceive what reality is. Our senses can sometimes deceive us, meaning that judging what is real by using our senses can be incorrect. The one thing that will not deceive us is our mind, and because of that we know what reality is through the usuage of our minds.
Mr.Zucman made a similar analogy to this during his lecture. He asked one of our students what was more meaning full something that is true or truth. He told us that something that we know about (truth) like one of the desks in our classroom means a 100 times less than something that is true to us (mind), such as the student's ex. The feelings the student had for her ex was far greater than what she feels about a desk.
These thoughts made me think about what art truely is. Ofcourse we all know that a painting is there (truth) like the desk in our classroom but the imagination we all create for ourselves of what a painting means is what truely exists(mind).
