Project 1: Day Without Technology

I chose to do this project last Saturday, seeing that I didn't have any plans set up and didn't have to use my car to go anywhere that day. To me, I thought that by not using any technology, it made my day very limited. I wasn't able to meet up with my friends, because they don't live within walking distance, nor was I able to listen to music and play video games when I was stuck at home. But still it made the day very enjoyable somehow. I didn't do much that day besides eat and walk around a little outside and at home, but it made my day move by so slow and helped me relax. I had a lot of time to think at night as well, because I locked myself upstairs so that my parents didn't have to deal with this project alongside me. I just had many thoughts about how that day was so different than the others, and just compared them. I also did a lot of reminiscing and thought about whats there to come in my future. Overall I just thought a lot about my life both past and future, this project was a really great experience, but if I had a choice to spend another day not using any sort of technology I would probably not spend another day doing this.

Chapter 7 Artists

The first painting that I thought was amazing was The School of Athens, which was done by Raphael. I thought that the arch was very eye grabbing due to its size and circular structure. There is so much things that are going on on this picture, and every single person in the painting is so well drawn and have their emotions, making it so realistic. And to me personally this painting also inspires me, seeing all those students and followers of philosophers ponder and share ideas with one another, makes me want to succeed one day with all the effort I put into my own studies. Having the the sky show in the background in the center portion of the portrait is also amazing, it makes to look so heavenly and peaceful. In conclusion the portrait looks very balanced, creative, and beautiful.

Another portrait that I thought was well done was That Gentleman, which was done by Andrew Wyeth. This would have to be my favorite painting so far in the book. This painting just looks casual to me, nothing really going on except the man's starring off in the corner of the dark room, which really makes me take a deep breath and relax. The details that were shown in this picture makes it amazing as well, such as the worn out shoes, the rusted chair, and the dark and plain wall, it sets the mood just right and makes you wonder what the old man is thinking about.

Literacy

In this lecture we talked about four different types of literacy, text, visual, network, and education. I don't really remember too clearly about this lecture, but I'm still able to remember one thing that Glenn mentioned that got me thinking, which was the discussion about education literacy disappearing. I really do believe that the education literacy is slowly disappearing seeing how fast technology is improving in our lives. Back then and even now people become educated by a teacher so that he or she learn facts and skills in order to survive as adults. But the thing different with today's world and the past is that people now have assess to most of all of human knowledge due to the internet. And seeing that people can go on the internet just from their phones, people now can learn the things they want to learn about anytime of the day. Why would a person have to know what year the United States declared independence? When a person can just look up the information on the spot, with their phones.

Identity lecture

On this lecture we talked about what identity means. We started class by watching certain scenes from the movie avatar, which is a perfect movie to show if you want to talk about one's identity. Before this lecture I always had a basic definition of what identity is, which at the time meant, things that I do which defines me as well as makes me unique. This definition changed after Glenn's explanations as well as examples of some people, creating a sim online that she believed it was her. Identity to me isn't just things that makes us who we are on the outside, such as habits and what we do, but also what the person thinks of themselves in the inside. Identity is something that everyone has, it is the belief of what that the person thinks he or she is, it may be true or it can also be false, both are considered to be identifications and both are just as real.
